Project Overview

After moving out of my college dorm, I was no longer able to get a resident assistant to help me if I locked myself out of my room. To ensure that I would never forget my apartment keys, I integrated them directly into my most-carried object: my phone. I reverse-engineered the profile of my keys by scaling a photograph against a ruler in CAD, allowing me to trace the exact geometry.

I designed a custom phone case with a precision cutout on the interior that houses the key perfectly and also includes a slot to allow you to fit your finger in to lift the key. Printed in TPU, the case is flexible enough to easily insert the phone, rigid enough to hold the key securely in place, and incredibly durable. This "no-fail" solution ensures I never leave my apartment without my ability to get back in.
